TRANSCRIPT FROM GDC WEB PAGE - © 2006 GENERAL DENTAL COUNCIL ______________________________________________________________________________ Title: DCP registration draft Rules consultation
Close Date of Consultation: Friday, March 31, 2006
This consultation is on the draft Rules that will bring about the long-awaited registration of dental care professionals (DCPs). The General Dental Council (GDC) has been working towards this goal, with colleagues in consumer groups, dental professional organisations, and government, for a number of years and we are very pleased that the necessary legislation is now in place to allow us to proceed. We will be bringing dental nurses and dental technicians into statutory registration for the first time, and introducing two new DCP groups, orthodontic therapists and clinical dental technicians. This means that everyone in the dental team who is directly involved in the delivery of clinical care will be regulated and professionally recognised. The draft Rules are designed to implement a number of policy decisions which have been made by the Council, following extensive consultation. However, not all aspects of DCP registration will be governed by the Rules. Some aspects, such as the professional relationships between different members of the dental team, will be covered in guidance and some, such as the tasks which members of each group should be competent to carry out, in educational curricula. Section one of this document sets out the main features of DCP regulation and the policies on which it is based and shows which areas are covered in the draft Rules, which in guidance and which in educational curricula. Section two sets out the draft Rules.
We welcome comments on any aspect of DCP registration. However, your views on the issues and questions set out in the consultation document would be particularly helpful. Please send your comments to jcollins@gdc-uk.org or post them to: Janet Collins The closing date for this consultation is Friday 31 March 2006. TRANSCRIPT ENDS |
